Kindergarten March News

March is Reading Month! Come check out our class door of Pete the Cat.   Guest Readers are needed.  If you would like to read to our class please let me know.  We love to have others read to us and share their favorite books.  March Scholastic Book Orders will be due on Thursday, March 12th.  You may order online at the Scholastic Website using our class code GMZNK.  Books are great to add to Easter Baskets!

Reading:  Goldilocks and the Three Bears was our story this week. We read more than one version of the story to see how Goldilocks got away from the bears, (jump out the window, or run out the door).  We learned about the setting of the story being the cottage in the woods and the characters as the three bears and Goldilocks.  We decided we should not go into someone’s house when they are not home.  Our letter this week is Gg in which we practiced its sound at the beginning and ending of words,  as well as printing it.  Our sight words are: one, two, three, four and five.  We are learning to  spell the number words.

Math:  We finished our unit on the number 20 and beyond.  Keep practicing writing those bigger numbers with the tens and ones in the right order.  We are now learning about 2D shapes which are the flat shapes: circle, square, triangle, oval, rectangle, hexagon.  We looked for circles in the classroom and drew pictures of them.

Religion: Jesus teaches us to be Holy by making the right choices.  We should share what we have with others instead of keeping it all for ourselves.  We learned about St. Maria Goretti who was a child Saint who forgive the person who hurt her.

STREAM:   We made Oobleck from the story by Dr. Seuss of Bartholomew and the Oobleck.  The students had fun with it and deciding if it is a solid or a liquid.  We also read The Cat in the Hat and made our own paper hats.  What is your favorite Dr. Seuss book? They are great for rhyming and repetition of words as well as learning opposites like in The Foot Book.
