October Pumpkin News

Thank you all for coming to conferences, to hear about the progress your child has made this school year.  The first quarter ends on Friday, October 25.

Reading:  We read a nonfiction book about Flowers. We saw in this nonfiction book that a table of contents is at the front of the book while an index is at the back. It even had a glossary which is like a dictionary.  We learned the parts of a flower by reading this book and that we eat the fruit of some plants.  Our letter this week was the vowel Aa. We heard the Aa sound at the beginning and middle sounds in words.  Our new sight words are : have, is.  We read I Have to practice them. We learned to make a noun plural you add an s.

Math: We learned about number 8 and 9, counting with them and printing the number.  Next week we will work on comparing numbers to 10.

Religion:  The Greatest Commandment of Love God with all our heart, being, strength, mind and to love your neighbor as yourself. We drew  pictures of how we can  show  love to God and our neighbor.

Science:  The life cycle of a pumpkin. We read The Pumpkin Book. It’s Pumpkin Time to help us see how a pumpkin grows from seed, sprout, pumpkin leaves, vine, flower, green pumpkin and then the orange pumpkin. We learned a finger play called Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a  Gate and Five Pumpkins Rolling.  We also read Pete the Cat Five Little Pumpkins.

STREAM:  Does a pumpkin float?  We predicted if it would float or sink and we learned that it does float.  We also built towers with pumpkin candy and tongue depressors.

Needed school supply:  Glue Sticks, we have been using them a lot and are starting to run out.  If you would like to donate some that would be great. (We are trying to learn that we don’t have to cover all of our papers with glue in order to get them to stick.)
