Monday is our field trip to the Post Family Farm to visit the pumpkin patch. As of today, the forecast does not look great- rain is in the forecast. Please dress your child for the weather- raincoat, boots, warm clothes-do not send an umbrella. Please bring your child to restroom and then bring them to the preschool at 8:15 and pick up time is 11:15 a.m. (unless your child stays for Spanish Immersion).

This week in preschool, we have been preparing for our field trip by doing some work with pumpkins. We read some books about pumpkins, did some pumpkin seed counting, drew pumpkin faces, hammered nails (golf tees) into pumpkins, glued orange squares onto a paper plate. The children also discovered the sequence of how a pumpkin grows- seed, sprout, flower, pumpkin through some of our stories and story cards. The children learned the “Five Little Pumpkins Fingerplay.” We also practiced finger grip by aiming and coloring small insects (ant, ladybug, bee).

The children begin by putting a seed on each dot and counting with one to one correspondence to identify the number. When ready, the children name the number first and then count that many seeds onto the pumpkin.

Father Kyle stopped by for visit. The children showed him their “campfire” they had made for roasting lots of tasty treats.

In Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, the children practiced practical life works in the atrium. Some of the works they are learning are pouring beans, spooning gems, clothes-pinning, stringing beads, open/close various items, and tonging. These activities develop not only muscle control and self-control as they do these activities slowly.

November 1 is our Harvest Day/All Saint’s Day Party and it is also Special Person’s Day at Corpus Christi. The children will attend the atrium in the morning from 8:30-9:30 so we will begin at 9:45 in the preschool room. Each child may invite one special person to attend. They will have a snack together and do a few activities together. The children may leave with the special person at after our party unless they stay for Spanish Immersion. Please return the invitation with the name of the special person or send me an email.

Please note that there is NO SCHOOL next week Friday, October 25 as the teachers are participating in a professional development day.
