A Celebration of Citizenship!

A Celebration of Citizenship!

September 17, 2018 – Citizenship Day/US Constitution Day

Again, this year, Kevin Bowling, Court Administrator for Ottawa County, came and celebrated with the students in grades 5th – 8th grade, Citizenship Day.  September 17 has been designated as Citizenship Day/Constitution Day, as it was the original sign date in 1787.  It is celebrated yearly in schools across the United States.

Mr. Bowling engaged the students in conversation about the US Constitution through lecture, quiz games, questions and answers. The room was filled with enthusiasm, attentiveness, and was a quick paced repartee.   They received copies of the US Constitution and a sweet treat for a correct answer. The students’ knowledge of the US Government is amazing and their willingness to participate with guest speakers – is always delightful to watch.

Kevin Bowling is a regular speaker in the building, as he is the contact for the upcoming Law Day 2019. Held at the Ottawa County Courthouse, Grand Haven, MI.  A program for the middle school students to learn academic curriculum through teamwork, research, and presentation. Eighth graders assume the roles of baliffs, lawyers, and witnesses by presenting the questions, opening and closing statements they have written.  Students present a mock trial at the Courthouse and Honorable Jon Hulsing presides.

Thank you Mr. Bowling for helping us understand the US Constitution and the privileges that it holds.
