Third Grade Update December 20

Dear Parents,
When we return from break, students will begin the rollerblading unit in their physical wellness class. If students have their own roller blades or skates, helmets, or pads they can bring them to school to use. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Religion: This week we will continue to follow up on our lesson from the Children’s Advocacy Center on Kids have Rights. We will also look at how we are to care for God’s creation.

Language Arts: We will be reading How Do You Raise a Raisin. This is an expository text that tells about how raisins are made. As we read, we will be learning how to draw conclusions. In grammar, we will learn about action and linking verbs. We will also continue learning cursive letters.

Spelling: We will be working on making contractions this week. The words for the week are let’s, he’d, you’ll, can’t, I’d, won’t, haven’t, hasn’t, she’d, they’ll, when’s, we’d, should’ve, wasn’t, and didn’t.

Math: We will be learning the rules for dividing. We will begin with learning the rules for dividing by 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10. Please continue to practice math facts for 5-10 minutes a day.

Social Studies: We will begin learning about how Michigan became a state. We will look at some of the events that led up to the statehood of Michigan.

Science: We will begin learning about animals. We will learn about vertebrates and invertebrates as well as the different ways to classify animals.
