September News

We are now learning with our calendar that the month is September.  We have calendar activities everyday in which we learn the days of the week, counting to the date, our number of the day which is how many days we have been in school. We look at the number of the day and figure out what comes before and after it, five and ten more, greater or less than 25, 50 and 100 and if it is odd or even.  We also determine what the weather is and dress a frog for the weather.

Reading; We read The Little School Bus in which we learned about characters in a story and rhyming words.  We heard rhymes with the characters like goat in a coat, fox in socks, quick, quick, chick.  We are going through all the letters in the alphabet and then we will focus on one at a time.  This week we practiced recognizing the letters Aa-Ee and their sounds.  We have our first sight words of  I, am.  We will have 40 sight words in all to learn this year (plus there are hundreds more).  A packet of sight words is coming home today with your child.

Math:  We worked on patterning with AAB and AABB. We are beginning to learn our numbers 0 to 5.  We started with 1 and have a poem we learned to remember how to print it.  We will continue our numbers next week.

Religion:  We are learning to make the Sign of the Cross with our right hand.  We discussed how Jesus makes us happy.  We looked at a picture of the Virgin Mary and saw how she prayed to God.  We drew pictures of things that are  True, Good and Beautiful.

Social Studies: We are learning about ourselves. We shared our About Me pages. We read We’re All Wonders, I Am Human and I Like Me!

Library Books will be due on Thursday.  Please have your child bring them back to school on Thursday, so they can check out different books.

MAP Testing  is next week. We will begin with Reading on Tuesday and Thursday.  The students use their head phones and listen to questions to answer them.  The test allows us to see areas of strengths and weaknesses so that we can provide instruction where needed.  Math will begin on Friday.  Please make sure your child gets a good night sleep.

Parent Chaperones and Volunteers: If you would like to chaperone a field trip  or volunteer you will need to have the following:

  1. Virtus training
  2. Background Check
  3. Standards of Ministerial Form

The Background Check and Standards of Ministerial Form is available in the office. Virtus Training needs to be done online.
