Return to School Plan

Return to School Plan

Corpus Christi Community,

Thank you for your patience and diligence. We have been working on our Corpus Christi Return to Learn plan for most of the summer, with guidance and input from the Diocese of Grand Rapids, the Ottawa Area Department of Public Health, and the State of Michigan. The only things that are static in this endeavor are its enormous challenge and how quickly and often the information changes. Otherwise, all things remain dynamic in terms of response. We ask that you review the information and links below carefully and consider the best option for you, your child, and your family this year.

On August 4, the Corpus Christi Catholic School COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan for 2020-2021 was presented to the Board of Education. With their endorsement of the plan to be officially approved at the next meeting on August 11, I am excited to share that Corpus Christi will begin the school year with in-person learning for all students going five days per week, with an option for remote learning for families who prefer it. Below you will find documents that detail the instructional plans as well as plans for safety and security measures. The plans are comprehensive and comply with all requirements in the MI Safe Schools Roadmap. Most importantly, they will allow us to step boldly forward with confidence that we are ready to serve our students and families forthrightly, and faithfully whether that be in-person or via remote learning. In the safest way possible, we will teach, and students will learn.

We based our plan on three important beliefs:

  1. We are a Catholic community united as one Body in Christ, and we are made for community.
  2. Students learn best in a face-to-face environment with highly effective and qualified teaching staff providing high-quality instruction.
  3. We are bound by the Catholic Social Teaching of the Common Good to provide the safest environment for our entire community.

Please see the following links for detailed information about our approach to in-person learning this fall. Note that all of these plans are based on information accurate as of August 5, and are subject to change as new information becomes available.

On Wednesday, August 19th, we will reconnect as a school and faith community with in-person learning. We know that some of our community has certain needs and prefers a remote learning option, and we have made this available for you if you prefer to begin the year in this way. We will welcome our families back in-person when they feel the timing is right for their specific situation. Largely as a school, we will continue with in-person learning as long as we remain in Phase 4, and the health department allows us to. We will follow the three W’s – Watch your distance, Wear a face covering, and Wash hands often. We will require daily screening of all students and staff, provide opportunities throughout the day for hand washing, and have copious amounts of hand sanitizer in the classrooms and high traffic areas.. We are prepared and ready to welcome our staff and students back. Yes, there will be restrictions and guidelines to be followed. As a Corpus Christi community, we will stride forward proudly, allowing us to do what we do best: united by faith, faculty will teach and students will learn.

We must remain committed, flexible, and agile. Our mission has not changed. We continue to enrich students’ knowledge, nurture their faith, and build their character in a Catholic Christian environment. We will do it in-person or remotely and will strive to do it better than anyone else along the lakeshore. May God continue to bless you, your family, and all Crusaders!

In Christ,
Jennifer Liniewski
Principal
