The "Swanky" Report 10.11.19

Fall weather is officially here and I’m loving all of the Fall outfits on our Preschoolers! With the cooler, chillier mornings here, please make sure your child comes to school with a sweater or light jacket! We still go outside and will continue to go outside throughout the winter, so please dress accordingly!

This week we continued our “Letter Exploration” and learned that “D” is for Dog (arf arf arf), “D” is for Dinosaur (ROAR!), “D” is for Doll and “D” is for dump truck! We had so much fun with our first SHOW ‘n TELL! We can’t wait to have more of these! We also began our “Shapes Exploration” with the circle! On Tuesday we created a circle collage using dot paints, buttons, straws, toilet paper rolls and pom poms.

We also learned how to properly use scissors for the first time. If you would like to practice this at home with your student, we’ve talked to them about the things we can and cannot do when we’re using scissors. We also learned how to properly give another person the scissors you’re using by holding the blade in the palm of our hands.

      • Do we throw scissors? No
      • Do we run with scissors? No
      • Do we cut hair? No
      • Do we cut clothes? No
      • Do we cut our fingers? No
      • Do we cut paper? Yes

We are continuing to see our students grow each and everyday in vocabulary, expression, creativity and so much more!

On Thursday of this week we also had our first “Lockdown” drill and our students did great! We remained quiet and followed all of the instructions given to us. If your child has any questions about what happened or what to do, please talk to them at home about the importance of practicing these drills.

Reminders:

  1. Please make sure your child comes to school each day with a water bottle.
  2. Please make sure your child is coming to school with a sweater or light jacket with the chillier weather here.
  3. Please make sure your child wears pants he/she can easily take off to go to the restroom. Students should be able to pull up and down their pants on their own without any assistance or the fear that they’ll have an accident because they couldn’t unbutton their jeans or belt.
  4. With our Harvest party coming up on Oct. 31, we’ll have some treats donated to us by our students and families, please email me (meganswank@dogrschools.org) with any dietary or allergy restrictions for your child.
  5. If you haven’t done so already, please sign up for Holiday Party Donations
  6. I (Mrs. Swank) will be out of town on Oct. 29 and Oct. 31 so we will have a substitute assistant as Mrs. Fickel will take on the lead role that week. If your child needs advanced notice of changes happening, please talk to them about this change. Mrs. Fickel will be holding the Harvest Party for our students on Oct. 31.

Next Week:

  • We will be continuing our “Letter Exploration” with “E” is for Elephant!
  • Please plan on bringing an item that starts with the letter “E” for Show ‘n Tell on Tuesday!
  • We will also begin our “Number Exploration” with the number 2! “One Fish, Two Fish. Red Fish, Blue Fish”
