Third Grade News

Dear Parents,
Next week, we will not have Mass as the priests are away. In place of Mass, there will be a prayer service beginning at 8:45 for about a half-hour on Wednesday. Feel free to join us! Our new virtue of Self Control will also be starting next week. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!

Religion: This week we will continue to look at some Old Testament readings that foreshadow Jesus’ coming into the world and identify our role in the Kingdom of God.

Language Arts: This week, we will read the story Kumak’s Fish. This is a tall tale about a fishing pole Kumak received from his Uncle. As we read, we will continue working on sequencing the events of a story. In grammar, we will learn about declarative (statements) and interrogative (questions) sentences. In writing this week, we will begin learning how to write a paragraph.

Spelling: This week we are working on how to add endings to base words. The words for this week are using, getting, easiest, swimming, heavier, greatest, pleased, emptied, leaving, worried, strangest, freezing, funniest, angrier, shopped. Please keep the list the student’s home folder for the entire week. We will be using it in class, and they should be studying it at home as well.

Math: This week, we learn about graphs. We will learn how to interpret and make picture graphs and bar graphs. Most Mondays-Thursdays students will be bringing home math homework. If they are struggling with it, please let me know and we will work on it together in class.

Social Studies: This week we will begin learning about the different groups of people who came to Michigan and the reasons why they chose to move to Michigan.

Science: This week, we will look at different tools scientists use to help them with their experiments. We will also review the vocabulary terms learned in this chapter.
