Third Grade News

Dear Parents,
Next week, third grade will be doing the readings at Mass. Please come and join us. On Friday, we will be having Adoration. If your child would like to bring their rosary or prayer book, they are more than welcome to. Picture day is coming, forms were sent home today. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!

Religion: This week we will conclude our first unit on the Trinity and God’s love for us. Students should be practicing learning the Apostle’s Creed.

Language Arts: This week, we will read the story Supermarket. This is an expository text, where we will learn about facts and details about the supermarket. As we read, we will learn about comparing and contrasting. In grammar, we will learn about imperative (command) and exclamatory sentences. In writing this week, we will continue learning how to write a paragraph.

Spelling: This week we are working on vowel digraphs (ee, ea, ai, ay, oa, ow). The words for this week are clean, agree, teeth, dream, grain, coach, display, window, shadow, cheese, peach, braid, Sunday, float, thrown. Please keep the list the student’s home folder for the entire week. We will be using it in class, and they should be studying it at home as well.

Math: This week, we will conclude our learning about graphs and data. We will learn about line plots and have a test on Wednesday. We will then begin our exploration of multiplication. I will be sending home a packet of flashcards with the students to help them learn their multiplication facts.

Social Studies: This week we will be learning about the Three Fires tribes (Odawa, Ojibway, Potawatomi) and how they told stories called legends.

Science: This week, we will conclude our study of what scientists do with a test on the chapter. We will then begin learning about the design process.
