December Kindergarten News

The students truly enjoyed their swimming lessons. It was great to see the progress they all made from the beginning to the end.  Keep practicing your swimming!

Reading: We read a nonfiction story called Little Panda in which we saw the panda grow and changed. The panda was weighed, measured, learned to eat bamboo and played with his mom.  We compared ourselves to the panda.  We learned more about verbs as being the action word.  Our letters this week are Nn and Bb. We practiced their sounds and came up with words that begin and end with Nn and Bb.  We added new sight words of: me, she, with.  We used the word me in a sentence and read the words in our story Nan and Nat.

Math:  We continue to learn about addition with the sums of 9 and 10.  We took a test on this unit but we will continue to practice addition throughout the school year.  Next week we will graph with gingerbread and solve problems with gingerbread.

Religion:  We learned that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is human and the light of the world.  We learned about the season of Advent in the Church in the Atrium and in our classroom. We read The Christmas Baby and This Is the Stable (which had rhyming words) to hear the story of Jesus’ birth.  We colored in an advent wreath with 3 purple candles and 1 pink. We made a book about Advent putting the word for on each page.  Enjoy reading the book at home.

Next week we will be reading several stories about the Gingerbread Men.  On Wednesday, December 18, we will be making gingerbread houses at 1;30. We could use a couple of volunteers to help us with this activity.  If you are able to help please email or let me know. I have all the supplies needed.  I try to make this a surprise for the students, so please don’t tell them.
