Kindergarten Thanksgiving News

Thank you for all of the donations of food for our food drive.  The children enjoyed the Day of Sharing. They were mixed with other kids from Preschool to 8th grade and rotated to five stations:  sorting, counting food, place mats for the nursing home, Kids Food Basket coloring bags, Kids Food Basket bagging the trail mix and making cards for shut ins.  They enjoyed a delicious meal!

We came up with a great list of what we are Thankful for: family, God, food, art, Atrium, friends, books to name a few.

Reading:  A Bed For Winter showed us how a mouse had to find a home for the winter.  He went to different animals and saw that their homes would not work for him until he found a tree trunk.  We put pictures in order of what happened first, second, last. We are learning about adjectives  as opposites like soft, hard, big, little, happy, sad.  Our vowel this week is Ii. We used Ii in the beginning and middle sound.  Our sight words are:  he, for.  We have now learned 13 sight words, keep learning the words!

Math:  Addition with using the plus(+) and equal sign (=).  We count objects to find the sum. We are also learning different strategies to add by beginning with the bigger number and counting on, using a number line and hopping to the sum.  We will continue adding the next couple of weeks.

Religion: Baptism Makes Us Members of God’s Family. We learned the symbols for Baptism and that the color white means purity. We listened to the story of Jesus’ Baptism.   We shared our Baptism pictures and glued them in our book.

Social Studies:  We learned about maps and map keys by making a map of our classroom and our bedrooms.  We read There Was An Old Pirate Who Swallowed a Map.
