Fall has officially arrived and it feels a bit cooler. Be sure to send a jacket with your child for those cool days when we play outside.

Please look for the information regarding our first field trip and the permission slip in the blue folder. Permission slips are due back by October 11, 2019.

This week in preschool, we did some apple activities to celebrate apple picking season. The children could fingerpaint an apple, make an apple tree with torn paper (tearing paper is a great fine motor activity), and did an “apple” sorting activity using pom poms as apples and tongs. We also discovered the colors of apples and that all apples do not taste the same by doing a taste test- we tried red delicious, gala, and granny smith. We also found the secret shape that is inside every apple-ask your child what the shape is.

We also explored our sense of hearing by listening for sounds in the environment and identifying matching sounds. Sound discrimination is an important pre-reading skill. Take some time this weekend to sit quietly and listen for sounds in different environments (home, outside, church, store, etc.).

The children also practiced pre-writing by using the three finger grip to aim and scribble small stars and fireflies. They also have been tracing the letters of their name with dry erase markers. If your child is ready at home, have them practice recognizing and tracing their name. If they are already writing their name, try introducing the lower case letters of their name.

Have a great weekend!
