The "Swanky" Report 11.15.19

This week just flew by! I hope each of you enjoyed your snow day on Tuesday! We had a ton of activities to catch-up on when we returned on Thursday! I think it’s safe to say that Winter has officially arrived (I personally LOVE winter)!

This week in Preschool we continued with our “Letter Exploration” unit with the letter “I!” We learned that “I” is for igloo and inches! Our students are working so well helping each other and learning how to communicate their feelings with each other! I’m so proud of them!

In STREAM, our students experimented with baking soda, food coloring and vinegar. We got to see the effects that vinegar has on baking soda. If you’d like to try this experiment at home here are the steps you need:

  1. Fill up 2 oz. cups to 3/4 full of baking soda.
  2. Mix each cup with different food coloring and make sure there are no clumps!
  3. Place all the cups in a group or in a row.
  4. Slowly pour vinegar into each cup to see what happens!

Reminders:

  1. The colder weather is here, please send your students to school with the proper outdoor clothing so they are warm when they go outside for recess. With that in mind, please practice at home with students on getting dressed (I.E. snow pants first and then boots).
  2. Please remind our students that we do not throw snow at our friends when we’re in school. We all know that Michigan snow isn’t always the softest and could also be combined with ice, so to avoid any accidents, we’d prefer that we don’t have snowball fights!
  3. Our students run around and play a lot throughout the day, please remember to bring a water bottle with them to school each day so they can stay hydrated.
  4. Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place this coming week Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Please check your emails for your reminders!

This Coming Week:

Preschool:

  • We will continue our “Shapes Exploration” unit with the rectangle! They’ll be able to create their own robots using only rectangles!
  • We will also continue our “Letter Exploration” unit with the letter “J!” We’ll learn that “J” is for jellybeans!

STREAM:

  • We’ll see what happens to gummy bears when they’re placed in different liquids.
  • We will also learn how to count and group colorful goldfish!
