October News

We are learning that the month is now October!

Reading: We read Smash Crash! in which we saw two best friends go around town until Rosie could get their attention to help her with Smash Crash a building.  We learned about characters as well as nouns. We wrote nouns to complete sentences.  Our letter this week was Mm. We used letter Mm at the beginning and ending sounds in words.  Our sight words are: to, a.  Keep practicing all six of our sight words.

Math: Numbers can be compared as greater than (more), less than (smaller) and equal to.  We have been comparing numbers up to 5 using these words.  We keep practicing printing our numbers 0 to 5.  Next week we will begin numbers 6 to 9.

Religion:  We are learning the first two lines of the Apostle’s Creed: I believe in God, the Father Almighty,  Creator of Heaven and earth.  We read from the book of Genesis the Creation story.  We colored and drew pictures in our own book of the story.  Enjoy reading them at home.  We have been learning the following prayers;  Sign of the Cross, Bless Us O Lord (before we have snack or eat lunch), Glory Be and Angel of God.  Practice these at home.

Social Studies:  We read Arthur’s Fire Drill,  Pete the Cat Firefighter Pete, Fire Trucks. We made a great list of fire safety rules like stop, drop and roll, call 9 1 1, don’t play with matches or the stove. We read and colored a book about firefighters, practice reading it at home.  Discuss fire safety at your house.

October Dates:

Picture day is Tuesday, October 8.  If you wish to order pictures, please return your picture envelope.

Post Family Farm Permission slip is due on Friday, October 11. If you would like to chaperone, please return the permission slip with the $5.00.  Our field trip is Monday, October 21, we will leave at 8:30 and return at 11:15.  Your child may wear their lime green Corpus Christi Tshirt, jeans, shoes/boots.  Dress for the weather.

October Scholastic Book Orders are due on Friday, October 11.  You may order online at Scholastic using our class code of GMZNK.  There are many great books to choose from at great prices. Check it out.  Books make great gifts, if you want them as gifts for your child please let me know and I will make sure to not give them  to your child.
