December 6 Preschool News

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with friends and families. We are now entering the busy month of December.

In preschool, we focus our conversations of Christmas around the season of Advent- a time of waiting and preparing for the coming of Jesus. A symbol of the Advent season is the Advent wreath- every week we will “light” a candle. The children have been practicing a song about the candles of the Advent wreath which they will sing at the Christmas program. Please check your child’s folder for a copy of the song and information about the Christmas program. We will start to listen to stories of that first Christmas. In the Atrium, we are also preparing for Christmas. The children had a procession into the atrium to prepare the prayer table for Advent with a purple cloth, advent wreath with candles, and flowers. The children listened to the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 9:1) for clues about the great gift God was sending. Some of the children also started to hear about the Annunciation when the angel Gabriel visited Mary to tell her the news that she will have a son named Jesus.

This week we also learned about the letter L and the sound it makes. We also discovered that it is made with a big line and little line. The children also reviewed the shapes of circle and rectangle and compared them to the shape of a square. We had fun decorating an ornament for our class Christmas tree- who doesn’t love glitter!
